THE PRELIMINARIES

Considerations

Confidence is critical to this business. You should love your headshot, but the only way for that to happen is to know what you want. Before you begin the process of selecting your photographer, ask yourself what you want your new photos to accomplish? What sides of yourself do you want shown off?

Our Philosophy

A headshot should be stylistically modern and as close to technically perfect as possible, but on top of that it must be a striking and unforgettable representation of you. That's where we come in. We consider it our core job to provide you with the most accurate, sincere, and compelling images that it is within our power to deliver.

Consultation

This is the part where questions get asked and answered. We can simply use the phone, but often prospective clients come up to our studio, meet us and our studio pets, and get a headstart on feeling confident about their upcoming shoot. We can skip this step and go right to it, but we find that meeting goes a long way to a happy shoot day.

THE SESSION

Preparations

Most of our advice will feel like common sense. Get a good night's sleep beforehand, and drink lots of water. Avoid the temptation of beginning a new skincare routine (especially exfoliants) because they can cause surprise redness and breakouts. If you have any questions, or are worrying at all, reach out to us.

Wardrobe

This is something that we'd go over in depth in a constulation or lead-up email, but our basic guideline is to bring your favorite things. Your go-to audition outfits? Bring them. Your favorite night-on-the-town outfit? Do it. Bright colors, neutrals, simple patterns, bring it all and we'll help you decide. People often just bring a suitcase!

Makeup & Hair

If you wear makeup, or want to show off several hairstyles across looks, having a dedicated makeup artist there to make sure you look your best is a great investment. We work with several excellent artists that we absolutely recommend. This said, if money is tight we understand, and can help make it work without.

THE POST PROCESS

The Proofs

Within 24 hours of your shoot you'll get access to your personal online proof gallery, where you'll find selections from your shoot. We'll have noted our favorites (which will usually be ones we all liked during the shoot). You can share this link with whoever you like. We'll provide the proofs as small .jpg files as well, making them easy to share on social media.

Retouching

Retouching is a powerful tool. When you meet someone in person, you don't notice a stray hair, a slight blemish, a loose thread. But it's funny how bright lights and high resolution can make all those little things distracting. You'll see pores you never knew you had. Retouching is the final polish on your image, and Michele works with a restrained hand.

The Final Product

Once you've made your final selections Michele will get to work, and your images will be ready in about a week. You'll have your final images in high resolution photos ready for printing, and lower resolution images that are optimized for internet usage like Facebook and Twitter. We've designed the sizes and specs of each format so that they work just right.

THE BUSINESS END

The Deposit

We usually ask for a $100 non-refundable deposit to confirm booking. We do this for a few simple reasons, but mostly because it means that most people will keep their appointment with us if they've already put some money down. It will be applied to the total cost of the shoot on the day of your session.

Cancelling & Rescheduling

We understand that everyone is busy and things happen. Changes are fine with at least 48 hours notice. Just reach out to us and let us know and we’ll work to get you rescheduled as quickly as we can.

Copyright & Licensing

We operate under standard headshot/portrait licensing procedures. Basically, we own the photos, you own your likeness, and everyone gets permission from everyone else to use the photos as they need to. We're always happy to answer any question you might have, or provide a copy of the licensing agreement to take a look at.
